Air Warrior

This is my main interest at the moment!  So what is Air Warrior?  Well it is basically an air combat simulator but much more complex than most others in that you can take part in combat with other aircraft, which is especially exciting when played online.  When online, every other aircraft you see is being piloted by another REAL person somewhere else in the world!  See here for more links and information on Air Warrior.

Having watched my husband and son (Zebedee and Cloud) 'from the sidelines' for about 6 months, I became very addicted to Air Warrior and wanted to try it myself - the only problem was it would have needed us getting a third telephone line!  However, we found a way of all three of us using one line, so I decided to get my own account and have a go myself!  (Despite the fact I had never even tried any kind of flight sim before, much less flown a real plane).  My original idea was just to try gunning on bombers and leave the flying side of things to the experts! <g>

I then needed to choose a handle/CPID and thought I would link it with my husband's.  As he is Zebedee (as in the cult TV series The Magic Roundabout of the late 60s/early 70s) I decided to call myself Florence!  As for the CPID, I originally tried for Floss (in preference to Flo) as being short for Florence but as it was already taken, opted for Flos. Online, however, various members of the AW Community call me different variations such as Flo and Flossie!

In spite of the fact I had never flown a plane before, I went online straight into Full Realism - after all, if I am going to learn it might as well be realistic!  Zeb and Cloud were both members of the Krait Squadron and within a few days I was invited to the Squad too - flying with the Kraits had been my ultimate ambition, so I jumped at the chance of joining!

I take a very keen interest in all things Air Warrior, and follow all the messages we receive as well as the newsgroups with great enthusiasm.  In September 1998, we held our UK AW Summer Meet at Lichfield.  It was great to meet other Air Warriors, and I was especially pleased to meet so many other members of the Krait Squadron.  It was a brilliant weekend which I will remember for a long time and has made my online experience much more pleasurable knowing what the people I am flying with look like! <g>

This year, the Krait Squadron are hosting the First Ever UK AW Convention in London, on 26/27 June.  This promises to be an excellent weekend, with head-to-head and various other AW competitions, an Air Warrior Quiz and visits to a WW2 bunker as well as RAF Hendon Aero Museum.  This event is the first of its kind outside of the US, with up to 40 people attending. There will also be a webcam at the convention, which will be updated regularly over the weekend.

Recently, the Krait Squadron has undergone several changes, all within a very short time period.  Firstly, I took over as Adjutant after Fidd decided to step down to give him more time for other things, like SAC (Scenario Aircraft Converter) and the impending arrival of an addition to his family!  :-)  Shortly after that, Vulch succeeded Spiff as CO, as Spiff's time was being taken up more and more with his GOP duties.  At the same time, due to the ever-increasing interest in the Kraits, an extra squad was formed on the Gamestorm host to create two wings - Blue and Green.  Most of the existing members remained in <Kraits BW> (Blue wing), while Spiff (as CO of Green Wing), Fidd and RGJ transferred to <Kraits GW>, where new or recently returned members are gradually being added.  The creation of a second wing was met with a little trepidation at first, but it soon became clear that we still operate as ONE SQUAD, and that having two wings simply means we can now actively recruit more members!

One of my other interests is cross-stitch, and last year I completed a pitcure of the Kraits 'logo' which you can see by  clicking here.  This took some time to complete, and was finished and framed just in time for the UKAW Meet in September 1998.

In case you are interested in what I look like, you can find out by clicking on Florence below:
